Purchasing a weight bench for my home gym was an important item for me. The amount of exercises you can perform with a solid weight bench is endless, it was truly a must-have.
That said, there are so many different options… I spent hours researching different designs, materials, and ultimately bought a bench which I later returned. There’s a lot of crap out there, and some really expensive crap too.
The best foldable weight bench is the Adjustable Workout Bench by FLYBIRD. This bench has a 620 lb weight capacity and is made from heavy duty commercial-grade steel. The bench itself is covered in high-quality leather and can be adjusted to 10 different positions. Additionally, the bench can be folded up in a matter of seconds for quick and easy storage.
Here are some of the specifications I looked for when finally making the decision to go with the FLYBIRD Adjustable Workout Bench.
Quality, first and foremost
The quality of my weight bench wasn’t something I was willing to sacrifice on. I needed something that would last a long time and wouldn’t break down on me or require maintenance.
Fortunately, FLYBIRD did a great job designing this bench and used some really high-quality material to build it.
The frame of the bench is made from heavy-duty, commercial grade steel. And you can tell when you use it. The stability the bench provides is no different than a bench you’d find in an LA Fitness or 24 Hour Fitness. It’s solid!
The bench is cushioned with 2 inches of thick foam, and is wrapped in high-quality leather. Whether I’m laying down doing crunches or sitting up doing shoulder presses, it’s incredibly comfortable.
Lastly, I really wanted something that was easy to assemble. With the first bench I purchased, it felt like I needed a degree in Engineering to put it together. This bench, as many people praised in the reviews, comes already assembled!
Price, it needs to be within my budget
This was something I went back and forth on. This bench, by FLYBIRD, is pretty inexpensive as far as weight benches go. It was actually half as expensive as the first bench I bought and returned.
That said, I’m extremely happy I didn’t buy a more expensive bench. It’s absolutely not necessary.
There are benches selling for $400 and $500 dollars, some for even more. The funny thing is those benches do essentially the same thing, have a similar weight capacity, and a lot of them don’t fold up and aren’t easy to store.
Don’t be fooled by price, it doesn’t always translate to a better quality bench!
Versatility, the ability to perform dozens of different exercises
There were a couple things I needed from my weight bench. The first was the ability to put it in the decline position. I’m a big fan of decline bench press and needed a bench that would allow for that kind of movement.
Second, I wanted a bench that would allow me to comfortably perform weighted sit-ups. This bench has a foam padded foot support which makes doing these kind of movements super comfortable.
Finally, I needed a bench that would accommodate someone my height. I’m 6’2″, a lot of the benches out there are too short for me to comfortably perform simple exercises like bench press. This weight bench is perfect for just about any height.
Compact, needs to be realistic for a small apartment
Another one of the things I looked for when researching different weight benches was the ability to easily store it.
When I originally purchased the bench, I lived in a fairly small apartment (600 square feet). I needed something I could ideally fold up and put under my bed when not using it.
This workout bench makes it super easy to fold up after you’re doing using it and slide it under your bed or put it in the closet.
Huge selling point!
